Aircraft Carriers are the game's stand-off, multi-role ship. They will carry four kinds ofAircraft, Dive Bombers, Torpedo Bombers, Scouts and Fighter Planes. Each aircraft type will perform a specific task, and the Carrier can have more than one group of aircraft in the air at a time. Aircraft from your carrier can be used to attack enemy aircraft, scout out enemy ships and aircraft, attack enemy ships directly, escort/cover other friendly ships and aircraft, etc. Carriers may also have small caliber anti-shipping and anti-aircraft guns on board, however, the Captain of a Carrier should expect to make every attempt to avoid enemy ships and aircraft to stay combat-effective.|
The Carrier will be limited to having a certain number of squadrons in the air at one time. Those squadrons must be made up of a single aircraft type (e.g. a single squadron must only have fighters, torpedo bombers, dive bombers, OR scout planes in it), and are led by a Squadron Leader, who is effectively a trainable "Officer" on the ship - similar to the Gunner or Loader you're familiar with from World of Tanks. When a squadron is in the air, if it is completely shot down or runs out of fuel (we'll assume for now that the last plane shot down will be the Squadron Leader automatically), the lead is considered "killed" and that squadron can not be flown again for the duration of that game. Similarly, squadrons missing planes that make it back to the carrier can be "recharged" with aircraft from the carrier's reserve, and relaunched after a set period of time to wreak more havoc on the enemy. Players ope carriers have the option of telling their aircraft to escort another ship or squadron of planes, pre-setting waypoints for them to fly, and using those waypoints to ensure that attacks against ships are coordinated from one or many directions as the situation requires.
Some nations, such as Japan and the United States, had "hybrid" carriers planned or built. Wargaming is planning to include hybrids where applicable, but the developers have cautioned that they will be exceedingly difficult to play, with many weaknesses that must be carefully masked by a skilled player.
Will aircraft carrier players be able to control the planes that they have launched?
In the RTS-style
Will all nations get to get Aircraft Carriers?
Yes, of course.
In the Japanese carrier will I be able to order my pilots to load bombs and go kamikaze against enemy ships?
Airstrikes seem like they would be overpowered at tier 2. Raids take a lot longer than artillery shells to move.
Overpowered? Why is that? On tier 2 you will have like some turtle-flying biplanes.
Are we going to start with CVEs then advanced down the line to CVs or tiering system will mix CVEs and CVs down the line?
Yes, players will start with old escort CVs
If you are playing as a carrier and you send out a squad of say 10 dive bombers to attack an enemy cruiser and 5 got shot down but the other 5 survived would you be able to use those 5 again.
Also is there going to be a time between launching planes?
Yes -Posted 17 August 2012 - 08:15 AM
Will the wind direction be important to carrier operations?
No, we are the game for mass market, and trying not to create hard mode
What will be the first and last carriers? Do you know the expected US and Japanese tier tens? Will the first ones be something like theLangley,HermesandHosho?
I can not tell you the Tier 1 CVs, but I can tell you the Tier 10 - it isMidwayfor USN and G15 for IJN. -
Will Aircraft Carriers be unable to launch planes if their deck is damaged/on fire?
They will have penalty to launching ability
Will carriers be extremely vulnerable to fire during reloading/refueling of aircraft? And will there be a visual cue that aircraft are being prepped on deck for other ships?
No, there won't be any special debuffs during operations.
How will carriers manage air combat? I understand it is a RTS-style, but will other players be able to see the air battle and its outcome from their ships?
Other players will see all planes of their team in the air, and can watch at the air combat between fighters or can look at the torpedoes, dropped from TBs.
Will CVs be able to call back its planes and repair?
Yes. of course
How many aircrafts will we be able to carry?
The number of aircraft you can carry depends on the CV you currently use - the basic numbers are close to historical for historical aircraft types.
Will a carrier be able to 'upgrade' the planes it carries (ie Swordfish -> Barracuda)
Will the launch of aircraft be historical to or will it be sped up to make the game more fun?
When your carrier (or any ship with aircraft flying) is sunk, will your aircraft instantly be destroyed or can you still control them until they run outa ammo and fuel?
You will be able to control the rest of your planes until they are out of fuel. -Posted 21 August 2012 - 10:56 AM
If your carrier is sunk, then could you land your planes on another carrier and give that player control over your planes?
Will the mass or size of the plane determine on how many you can carry at once? and will Carrier functionality be realistic as some carriers couldn't actually launch Jets due to their limited Flight Deck?
Partially yes, the size and mass of plane will determine the amount of such planes in a named CV. Jets are unlikely to appear.
Will you be able to use gun batteries of Carriers for surface engagements?
Yes, though carrier using his guns instead of his planes either noob or just not knowing what his role is.
Will carriers have any kind of defense except the planes?
Well, of course. Most CVs were armed with AA and/or DP guns.M
The biggest US aircraft carried near 100 planes. Will situation be possible when player creates 100 independent groups by 1 planes?
When deploying Aircraft from CVs will you be able to deploy smaller squadrons at a quicker rate? For example, if theShukakucan deploy 8 aircraft at a time, would it be quicker to deploy 2 squadrons of 4 rather than a single squadron of 8?
Yes, smaller squadrons can be deployed faster.
Will the Hybrid BB/carriers and the likes strictly be able to launch scout planes, or will they be able to launch bombers that can hit lightly defended targets? (I suppose they wouldn't be as effective as a real carrier)
Hybrids will be able to launch some fighters and bombers, though these planes are almost no match to normal CV’s of a same tier. -Posted 25 September 2012 - 08:44 AM - EU
What about airplanes payloads? will they be included in the overall ammo cost?
That is possible
Will you be able to use prototypes or proposed aircraft on aircraft carriers (eg navalised Typhoon)?
Almost 100% yes.
Will you have to load specific planes onto carriers for use in combat, like you can load only bombers and thus have no fighters to take out air units or vise versa?
Yes, you can load specific plane types of your choice.
How many planes can you have up at once? Are they going to be grouped together or all individual control? (or able to be grouped) If grouped, how many groups can we have at once?
That depends on CV and her tier. All planes will come in groups. You will have up to six groups of planes.
How long will it likely take to get all the carrier planes up in the air?
You won't be able to get all your planes up in the air, cuz when you start to launching second half, first half will be out of fuel already
How do you intend to do the launch animation
Players will see planes on the flight deck, how they are taking off and landing.
On the IJN's Shinano during its maiden, and only, voyage it carried Ohka aircraft. Will it be able to do this in game?
Will CVs be able to mount 5" (or whatever) DP or self-defence guns? If so, will the player be able to control them?
CVs will be able to mount historical guns, though these guns most possibly won't be manually controllable. -Posted 07 November 2012 - 11:21 AM
Will there be a research line connecting the aircraft carrier Akagi and battlecruiser Amagi, seeing as they shared the same hull?
Can't say for sure now.
Will there be anything special happen when a CV runs out of planes in battle?
No, nothing special.
Will aircraft carriers have relatively low hp like SPG's in WoT?
There is no such plans now
When choosing a set of planes for an aircraft carrier, can a player choose which type of planes to have on deck first?
Can a player increase a carrier's plane capacity by storing planes on deck instead of keeping them all below?
Will carrier players be able to crowd planes on deck for eventual more rapid deployment?
No, there won't be features like this.
Will flight decks be able to be upgraded, to carry new types of aircraft, comparable to upgrading a turret to carry a new gun in World of Tanks?
As part of presets, yes.
What i am interested in is what happens to aircraft numbers after a mission....You are always going to lose some to AA fire and whatnot. Do carriers have less planes with each new mission (in game) (damaged aircraft, shot down aircraft, and others that just need servicing). I was wondering whether during the game air groups on CV's will become smaller with each new mission they send out?
When your damaged squadron will return to your ship, it will regain planes that were shot down - until there is no spare planes left in hangar.
If you loose all planes in a squadron you won't be able to use this squadron in that certain battle any more.
So it is very important to try saving some planes in a squadron.
Do you think Kaga is better or worse than Akagi?
I think that Kii is better than both.
Will you have a seperate tier for the Akagi CV and Kaga CV for their three deck design to the single smooth top?
Akagi and Kaga will be two different ships in our game.
Due to how many CV's the Japanese had built and their remodels, will we have two Nippon Kaigun (Japanese Navy) CV lines roughly around release?
No, in the release branch CV will only be one to one nation
Most carriers had to be moving at a certain speed to generate enough wind over the deck to launch aircraft- will we see this in game?
No, carriers will can launch planes in any situation.
What caliber gun will the tier 10. USN carrier have?
Will a carrier be able to spot enemy ships with its bombers?
Yes, but pretty bad. Scouts see much better
Have you gotten to play with any of the CVs?
Many times. -
If multiple planes come to land at a carrier at the same time, will each plane have to take some time to land or will they all land instantly?
Each plane will have to take some time to land.
Are carrier planes counted like ammo for the carrier? If so will that mean gold planes as well?
Rather, it will be a set of boomerangs :) . No gold planes.
What are the largest Carriers planned for the game? Lets start with the IJN, USA, RN, and KM, respectful.
If you can't answer that, I would at least like to know if the RN Malta Project will be in the game?
Midway, G-15. Yes, Malta will be in game.
How will the ammo on the planes be counted? will we have to pay for it?
No. It is enough that you will have to pay for the lost aircraft.
Will it be possible to take an Aircraft carrier out of Action by damaging or destroying either it's Fore or Aft elevators?
Temporarily, until repaired. -
If a carrier can carry 90 Aircraft then how many aircraft would it be able to launch at anyone time?
It depends on carrier. Up to 10 squadrons (6-10 aircraft in each).
Will Carriers have the ability to launch a one off squadron of Medium bombers? Such as the B-25 during the Doolittle raid?
Will a Top Tier Aircraft carrier be able to withstand several Salvos from a Battleship before succumbing?
Maybe. That depends on the Battleship
Will early Japanese carriers (not sure about US ones) have great their great caliber guns?
If they had it - yes
If you lose, for instance, 10 of your aircraft, will this cost credits to have them back in next battle? (I presume yes).
Yes, if you lose aircraft you will have to pay to replace them
If a carrier has all of its squadrons destroyed, (but the CV itself is still alive), will there be an option to replenish its aircraft?
The aircraft carrier will have some aircraft in the hangar to replenish its squadrons. If this reserve also was destroyed - then yes, it can't send any more aircraft to attack (in this battle).
I assume the fighters on the CVs will be wrestling for arial control of the battlefield, how important a role would that be?
Important, of course. -
Since the seaplane carrierAkitsushima's3D model has been made, and KGB said there won't be any aircraft equipped with more than 2 engines, what kind of seaplane willAkitsushimahave?
Akitsushimawill be an exception (as a Premium ship). It will carry 1 flying boat - Kawanishi H8K (4 engines).
We know that IJN Akitsushima will be a premium ship and It will carry 1 flying boat Kawanishi H8K, whether will Kawanishi H8K carry some bombs or torpedoes?
WillHiryūandSōryūbe different carriers or just presets for the Sōryū Class? Since the island is on the port side on theHiryū,
Now - presets of Sōryū Class. Later – we shall see.
Will the Ikoma class carriers will be a preset for Unryū Class carriers or entirely different ships?
Preset of Unryū Class.
Will the number of the elevators affect the efficiency of the planes' preparation?
Will a carrier have the ability to defend itself against Destroyers?
Yes. Secondary guns will and can shoot at destroyers. -Posted 07 June 2013 - 03:54 AM - EU
Will a carrier's Hit Points be between that of a Heavy Cruiser and a Battleship?
HP will be proportional to displacement. It turns out that something like it is. -
Some carriers have heavy guns for selfdefense, but are this guns able to fight enemy ships or only acts as AA guns? (Like shokaku, it has 16x127mm guns)
Universal guns can fire ships and aircrafts equally. Some carriers had 8” guns (USS Saratoga). 8” can’t fire aircrafts.
At what tier will USSEnterprisebe placed at?
Around tier 8. -Posted 07 June 2013 - 03:54 AM - EU
Is the Shinano line going to be presented in-game first or second?
Second (planning for first update).
Will Germany have theGraf Zeppelin?
How long does it take to reload the aircraft?
Several dozens seconds for one squadron.
Whats Graf Zeppelins Tier at the moment?
In any case, will the Lexington (CV) have her 8" guns be controlled by the player, or by AI?
Player will control 8"-cannons at carriers as cruiser main caliber.
Do you have CV elevator animations implemented?
Maybe in future. -
If planes are severely damaged or have be destroyed while flying, will their destroyed/damaged models crash into the player's ship and cause damage?
Possible, but unlikely
Essex had the 5" DP guns, but they will be by AI, correct?
Correct. -Posted 09 August 2013 - 04:14 AM
What replacedShinanoas the 10th tier 2nd carrier?（以下几个问题都是同一个话题）
СV No111 (Super-Shinano)
Shinano was moved? What was the reasoning for this? When was the decision made? Is she going to be able to carry a significant air wing (that is, more than just the self defense air group but rather the >100 planes she could hold)?
Original Shinano can carry about 45 aircraft. So, it's to weak against Midway (up to 100 aircrafts)
45 aircraft seems a bit on the small side - Does Shinano have a significant armor or advantage over the other carriers?
Shinano was heavily armoured (in reality). So, the same will be in the game. Furthermore, Shinano was built as aircraft repair workshop. It will give bonuses to speed of preparing airgroup.
Super what? CV 111? Has wargaming found some secret locked away cache of Imperial Japanese documents or is it just easier this way? Are you referring to Hull 111, aka the 4th of the Yamato class that was never finished, more over converted. That is a legitimate question too, what document did Wargaming find of this so called "Super Shinano" that in anyway is radically different than the Shinano Conversion?
We do not reveal our sources. CV 111 - it is 4th of the Yamato class hull. This hull is planned to convert into CV (like Shinano, but at an earlier stage of construction). Accordingly, the ship did not have birthmarks of BB's layout. As a result, it can carry up to 120 aircraft (estimated). We called this ship super-Shinano. Why not?
When a bomb falls on an aircraft carrier deck, can the carrier still land/launch aircraft?
Depends on the damage done. If the deck takes too heavy damage, traffic will be stopped until it's repaired.
On Carriers, will it be possible to upgrade the 8" guns? The AA armament?
AA armament - yes, 8" guns - most likely no. -Posted 19 August 2013 - 04:40 AM
How long is the radius of the Aircraft Carrier? Is it like a SPG tank? (More radius if you have a higher tier).
If you're asking about the range of the aircraft, then that depends on the aircraft themselves. Some have greater range, some shorter, so there might not be a linear correlation between carrier tier and the range of its aircraft. -Posted 16 September 2013 - 09:34 AM - EU
Can you give us the existing hitpoint number for Essex?
How quickly will carriers "change" their planes, or re-arm planes that come back from a bombing run? 20 seconds? 2 minutes?
Each aircraft needs about 6-7 seconds of preparation (refueling, reloading) and about 5-6 seconds to take off. Landing requires about the same time as taking off.
For example, a squadron of six aircraft will require up to 40 seconds of preparation (fighters prepared a little faster, attack aircraft - slowly) and about half a minute to take off.
Will CV aircraft be able to land and take off at the same time?
Most likely no
What are your plans for IJN Aircraft Carrier Akitsu Maru and can you tell us what tier will she be?
Currently slotted at tier 3. -Posted 06 November 2013 - 09:58 AM - EU
What tier is theDe Grasse?
4 or 5 -
What IJN carrier line will come first?
Shokaku - Taiho line.
Is Kaga tier 7 in Akagi line? If not where it suits?
No, both Kaga and Akagi are currently tier 8. -Posted 15 November 2013 - 09:43 AM - EU
If a carrier gets a torpedo hit and start listing, what will happen to the planes in the air?
Nothing. Torpedoes can't hurt planes. ;) -Posted 15 November 2013 - 09:43 AM - EU
